Cinema 4D & After Effects – Importing into AE

This exercise worked with importing C4D elements into After Effects and editing them natively in AE. I got to play with a snow effect with some editable text in AE. Added a lens flare (from Knoll Light Factory plug-in) at the start to give the presentation a bit of depth.

The LED screen was all created from scratch.

Cinema 4D – Importing vector images from Illustrator to C4D

Today I worked on some more practical skills. Taking a vectored item in Illustrator CS4 and making it editable in C4D. Pretty simple project today but very useful skill.

I finished this one early, so I began working on tomorrow’s project which focuses on lighting. The results are amazing! Here’s a snapshot of the lighting exercise (all made from scratch). It’s all going to be rendered, and the light source will swing creating moving shadows. Make sure you click to enlarge to really see the details within.

NASA rover landing on Mars

At approximately 1:30am this morning, the NASA Mars Curiosity landed safely on Mars. This is awesome, and I got to watch it all live on NASA’s live stream. I dunno, I just wanted to post because I feel like someday we’ll look back on this moment. And I bet we’ll ask, what were you doing the day the Mars rover landed on Mars? To that I answer: watched it live on uStream, while watching the new episode of Breaking Bad that was time shifted, texted with my GF who was at Osheaga, and made a heavy wrap consisting of bacon, cheese, honey ham, calabrese salami, sriracha sauce all wrapped in a tortilla.

Cinema 4D – Flowing Colourful Ribbons with Text

I’ve been learning so much in the last few days in Cinema 4D. I feel myself getting more confident with the program and really enjoying it. Today I made ribbons that flow (created with Slide NERBS objects). A cloner and a randomize mograph was applied to make multiple ribbons at random intervals. I then applied text and voila: flow-y text!

Cinema 4D – iPod + New Challenge

Today I challenged myself to create an iPod from scratch. This required turning a basic rectangle object and adding an Extrube NURBS object to it. This allowed me to carve out the basic shape of the iPod. I think it turned out pretty well for a 2nd effort at Cinema 4D. Also, I’ve decided to challenge myself with a 30 day goal. I want to try to do at least 1 Cinema 4D lesson a day for a month.
